Tulane Remote Internship: Planet Give - Marketing/NonProfit

# of Applications: Students are only allowed to apply to THREE Remote Internships. If you apply for more than three you will be disqualified from the program. Students can search through other Remote Internships by viewing the Handshake employer, Tulane Remote Internship Program.

Orientation Sessions: If selected, you MUST attend one of our orientation sessions on February 19 or 20.

Credit/Reflection Papers: Remote Interns will receive academic credit for the internship and are required to complete a reflection at the end of the semester. These internships are unpaid.

Required Site Visit during Spring Break: At the middle of the internship period (Spring Break), either March 26th or 27th, Remote Interns will make a site visit to their company and city with expenses paid by Tulane on either . Applicants should not make alternative plans for Spring Break until February 19th, or possibly before then if confirmed you have not been selected for a Remote Internship.

Office Hours: Remote Interns will work 6-10 hours per week (additional hours possible based on Tulane approval). Remote Interns will have the option to, or will at the employer’s request, work remotely out of the Tulane Career Center during office hours. Remote interns will have set weekly hours, check in and out of work, and complete weekly hour logs. Remote Interns will also be required to complete bi-weekly check-ins for Tulane online as a part of the internship process.

Resume (Required): Each of these internships require you to submit a resume for approval. In order for our career center staff to expedite the review of these documents, please upload your resume in the following format - "TRIP - LAST NAME, RESUME". Once your resume is approved, you can use the same resume for all of your submissions.

Cover Letters (Required): Cover letters - written individually for each internship you're applying to, should be submitted for approval using the format "TRIP - COMPANY NAME, LAST NAME, COVER LETTER." Tips on writing cover letters can be found at http://www2.tulane.edu/hiretulane/students/cover_letter.cfm. At minimum, your cover letter should address the following questions:
  1. Why are you interested in this position?
  2. What skills do you currently possess that you feel will help you succeed in this position?
  3. What do you hope to learn from this internship?
  4. Is there anything else about you outside of what's on your resume that you'd like for the employer to know? (Creativity is encouraged with this question.)

SPRING REMOTE INTERNSHIP TIMELINE

January 15 - February 2: Open Application Period
* While this is a deadline, resumes may be reviewed in real time, so it is in your best interest to submit as soon as possible. Also remember that your resume will need to be reviewed and approved prior to submitting.

February 5 : Interviews Announced to Selected Students

February 5-14: Interview Period (Skype and Phone, not In Person)

February 16: Selections Announced
* At this point, if you have not withdrawn from the interview process by emailing careerwave@tulane.edu, if you are selected you are immediately responsible for fulfilling your internship.

February 19 & 20: Mandatory Orientation Sessions

February 21: Remote Internships Begin

March 26-27: Company Site Visit & Onboarding (paid for by Tulane)

    REMOTE INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

    What is PlanetGive?

    PlanetGive is an innovative social charitable giving platform that connects the causes you support with the people you care about for the occasions you celebrate throughout the year. Registered users can donate to each other’s favorite charities whenever the occasion arises, be it birthdays, holidays, weddings, graduations, sending get well wishes or remembering others. With PlanetGive, you can give, and give back, at the same time. (www.PlanetGive.org)

    The key to meaningful charitable gift-gifting is finding out what causes others are passionate about and supporting those causes in their honor or memory. PlanetGive makes this easy. Users create a profile page, share their purpose, populate their page with the causes they support and connect with friends in a Circle of Giving to receive birthday notifications. Anyone can visit their friends’ profile pages, discover what their purpose is, learn what charities they care about, and make a donation to one of their friends’ favorite nonprofits in their honor. The recipient will receive an acknowledgement of the thoughtful contribution, and the giver will receive a confirmation receipt of their tax-deductible donation to keep for their records. Donations in the amount of $5.00 and up are accepted.

    The platform’s integrated Nonprofit Explorer database of 2.2 million tax returns from IRS tax-exempt nonprofit organizations provides users with an easy way to find and vet charities to support.

    • Registration and use of the secure platform are free of charge
    • All donations made on PlanetGive are tax-deductible
    • Registered users receive a private personal giving report
    • The site’s social media tools make it easy to collaborate with others in meaningful charitable giving

    PlanetGive is a start-up company comprised of the founder, along with a web developer and web designer who work with the founder on a contractual basis.

    Internship Description

    This internship is tailored for a student who is interested in gaining broad marketing experience. You will work with the founder in a variety of areas to grow the PlanetGive user base. Your efforts can involve contributions to growth hacking, raising awareness, media relations, inbound marketing and content creation. I am looking for someone who is very creative, is digitally savvy, has a sharp marketing mind, and is motivated to grow the PlanetGive platform in a meaningful way.

    Growth Hacking: Design and implement a creative project and marketing tools to spark rapid user growth.

    Influence: Raise awareness for PlanetGive, both at Tulane and in the New Orleans community, and convert awareness into platform users.

    Media Relations: Connect with influential media outlets, journalists, bloggers and thought leaders to strategically place articles and blogs about PlanetGive and charitable giving to build awareness and grow our user base.

    Inbound Marketing: Use content creation and social media activities to attract site traffic and convert into users.

    Content Creation: Create and/or utilize various types of relevant content on social media sites targeted to the needs and interests of our audience, external influencers and industry experts.

    Past TRIP internship activities have included: conducting a social media contest involving people’s favorite charities, making a creative video introducing the PlanetGive platform, building our Instagram page, and making a video of Tulane students describing why PlanetGive and charitable giving are important.
