What I liked

I helped with surge staffing for the pandemic, so I liked the significance of the work and the fast pace. I was also given the ability to work on lots of different projects and HR tasks. The company culture and people had a very robust and genuine interest in social justice and health equity, which was nice.

What I wish was different

Some aspects of the company culture was disappointing. Some coworkers did not like change or new ideas, would be unresponsive during a critical time, or not be overly cooperative when it was imperative to work together effectively and quickly. From what I understood, these issues were known, but not much was done about them (from my point of view).

Advice

If you ask the right people, you can learn an incredible amount of things in a very short amount of time.

What I liked

I was part of the COVID-19 Emergency Response. The people at the CDC Foundation were amazing and made a remote work environment very easy to love. Despite not being face to face, there were monthly brown bag meetings meant to bring people together (and they worked!).

What I wish was different

Nothing- I had an amazing experience here.

Advice

Definitely be prepared to be self-sufficient. There are plenty of resources to help you and supervisors will always help if asked, but given that it's a remote work environment, your dedication really depends on you.
